One family, the heart of the American dream. Will peacetime bring peace of mind, or will he be confronted by the consequence of his actions?
Filmed live from the West End, Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You), Tom Glynn-Carney (House of the Dragon), and Hayley Squires (I, Daniel Blake) also feature in this disturbingly prescient play.

JazzFest is committed to enhancing youth jazz education through performance opportunities and festival activities. The festival’s “Young Lions of Jazz” concert, featuring elementary school to collegiate musicians, highlights the qualities that jazz music imparts to students at every age.
Schedule
10:30AM-Trumpeter John D’earth leads a cadre of his 5th and 6th grade students from Walker Upper Elementary School to kick off a celebration of Charlottesville’s Young Lions of Jazz Matinee.
11:00AM-Lakeside Middle School musicians, led by band director, Robert Gregg, showcase the ways in which their music enhances the school’s core commitment to the idea that “creative excellence today prepares students to succeed in the changing and challenging world tomorrow.”
11:45AM-Saxophonist and UVA professor Dr. Jeff Decker provides a fascinating presentation on a little explored topic. He shows how, though it was initially used to suppress or distort Blackness, the packaging required by the introduction of larger, long-playing record “albums” eventually provided an opportunity for African American artists to carve a space for the presentation of agency and identity previously denied them. Scenes of students interacting with a recent presentation by Dr. Decker will be featured in The Paramount’s lobby.
12:30PM-Throughout the spring semester, public school band directors selected and rehearsed a multi-high school orchestra specially formed for the festival’s Young Lions of Jazz Matinee. Director Andrew LaPrade and others present this outstanding hand-picked group of musicians for whom jazz encourages an ability to innovate and collaborate in both their art and in their lives.
1:15PM-Select UVA students and faculty, led by Instructor of Jazz and Classical Guitar, Michael Rosensky, bring our student Young Lions of Jazz performances full circle. They demonstrate the University Jazz Program’s focus on developing the individual voices of jazz students, following the Duke Ellington model, which allows and encourages the distinct musical personalities of artists to create the overall sound and direction of the music.
JazzFest 2026 is pleased to welcome international sensation Veronica Swift as the headliner of its main event on June 6 at The Paramount Theater. An All-Star collective of many of the region’s finest jazz artists, led by renowned trumpeter John D’earth, will open for Swift that evening.
Swift has established herself as one of her generation’s iconic voices in jazz.
She recorded her first album at age nine, and since then has enjoyed a career spanning two decades which saw a 2nd place win at The 2015 Thelonious Monk Jazz Competition, a twice-a-year residency at Birdland Jazz Club, joining [trumpeter] Chris Botti’s touring band, as well as touring with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and the Benny Green trio. She has appeared with Michael Feinstein, recorded with Jeff Goldblum, and traveled the globe as she leans into the leading edge of jazz and other genres that capture her energy, ingenuity, and creative essence.
Her 2021 album This Bitter Earth received a 5-star review – and the cover – of DownBeat magazine. In 2024, she was honored with a French knighthood as Chevalier in the Order of Arts and Letters.
Swift was raised in Charlottesville, Virginia, as part of a family of renowned jazz artists. Her parents are singer Stephanie Nakasian, and the late jazz pianist Hod O’Brien.
Now making her home on the west coast, her 2026 album, titled Home, will be released in June. With songs like “I Miss the Mountains,” “Home” from The Wiz, and “I’m Comin’ Virginia,” Swift explores longing to return to her beloved Appalachia, her place in the country that is her home, and the complex challenges of this time as we question our roots.

Women founders carry a lot. We’re building businesses, creating income, making financial decisions every day, and trying to build lives that feel secure, not just successful.
But most of us are navigating it quietly.
Women Founders Talk Money is a free evening at Eastwood Farm and Winery where women business owners can come together over a glass of wine and have honest conversations about money, business, wealth, pressure, growth, and everything in between.
This is not a networking event and there will be no pitch. Just a room full of women founders having the conversations we rarely get to have out loud.
Come as you are. Bring a founder friend. Leave feeling lighter, clearer, and less alone.
Workin' Wednesdays is a monthly networking series held on the last Wednesday of each month, co-hosted by the Minority Business Alliance (MBA) and the Black Professional Network (BPN). BPN curates networking experiences that spark real connections, with a vision of building a strong, connected, and enriched African-American culture in Central Virginia.

THE BARBER OF SEVILLE
Composed by Gioachino Rossini
Libretto by Cesare Sterbini
Orchestral edition by Bryan Higgins, by arrangement with Motet Music Publishing Company
Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
Get ready for scheming, singing, and romantic chaos in Charlottesville Opera’s production of Rossini’s effervescent comedy The Barber of Seville. When the clever barber, Figaro, helps Count Almaviva woo the lovely Rosina, the result is a whirlwind of disguises, deceptions, and delightful hijinks. Our orchestra brings Rossini’s sparkling score to life—including the instantly recognizable “Largo al factotum”—while the mesmerizing performers navigate this madcap love story with wit and vocal brilliance. With vibrant period costumes and sets that capture the warmth of 18th-century Spain, this is opera at its most fun, proving that sometimes the best way to win a heart is with a little mischief and a lot of music.

A singer, composer and actor, Lyle Lovett has broadened the definition of American music in a career that spans 14 albums. Coupled with his gift for storytelling, the Texas-based musician fuses elements of country, swing, jazz, folk, gospel, and blues in a convention-defying manner that breaks down barriers.
Lovett’s live performances show not only the breadth of this Texas legend’s deep talents, but also the diversity of his influences, making him one of the most compelling and captivating musicians in popular music.
Since his self-titled debut in 1986, Lyle Lovett has evolved into one of music’s most vibrant and iconic performers. Among his many accolades, besides the four Grammy Awards, he was given the Americana Music Association’s inaugural Trailblazer Award, and was named Texas State Musician.
His works, rich and eclectic, are some of the most beloved of any artist working today.

Join us after the film for a Q&A!
In the 1960s, the iconic American folk singer Pete Seeger devised an audacious plan—to build a sailboat to save the polluted Hudson River. But the Clearwater was not just a beautiful wooden vessel; it was also a movement, intersecting environmentalism, civil rights, and antiwar activism.
An intimate portrait of Pete and the grassroots community he anchored in the Hudson Valley for over forty years with his wife Toshi, Down by the Riverside shows how an unconventional campaign to save a beloved American waterway prompted a green revolution.
As the globe confronts a seemingly insurmountable climate crisis, this film is a parable for our time that offers hope for the next generation, revealing the potential of imagination, music, and participation to transform the planet.
This sensory-friendly screening will provide a positive viewing experience that is welcoming to all individuals, including those with sensory sensitivities. While the film will be shown as produced, patrons will notice special accommodations such as lower sound levels, and house lights remaining on at a low level during the screening. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s (Zach Galifianakis) hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up.

Ann Wilson, known the world over as a founder and the lead singer-songwriter of the barrier-breaking band Heart, is here to stay. Widely praised among the greatest singers in the history of rock, Ann’s extraordinarily powerful voice has helped form the bedrock of modern music for over five decades, earning record sales of more than 35 million, an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. As one of the first women to front a hard rock band at arena scale, Wilson helped redefine the possibilities for female artists in rock, delivering era-defining hits like “Barracuda,” “Magic Man,” and “Crazy on You.”
In addition to her work with Heart, Wilson has built a dynamic solo career that highlights both her range and restless creative spirit. Her solo albums, including Hope & Glory, Fierce Bliss, and Another Door, blend rock, folk, and orchestral influences while pairing her unmistakable voice with bold reinterpretations and original material.
She further connects with audiences through her podcast After Dinner Thinks, where she reflects on music, culture, and the artists who have shaped her journey.
In 2026, Wilson unveils her most intimate project to date: In My Voice, a forthcoming documentary directed by Barbara Hall that traces her extraordinary life through rare archival footage, personal journals, and candid storytelling, offering an unprecedented look at the artist behind one of rock’s most enduring voices.
Over the past 20+ years, The New Pornographers have proven themselves one of the most excellent bands in indie rock. They have released nine studio albums, including their classic debut Mass Romantic and their latest 2023’s Continue as a Guest. The band’s new album, The Former Site Of, will be out via Merge Records on 3/27/26, and new single “Votive” is out now.
They’ve constantly offered new sonic surprises with every album, and have established themselves alongside modern luminaries like Yo La Tengo and Superchunk when it comes to their ability to evolve while still retaining what made them so special in the first place. Of the 2023 record, New York Magazine lauded, “The New Pornographers are a massive unit bursting with unique and intersecting talents…the band’s ninth album serves another helping of their signature dish.”

Meeting with a young girl from his hometown who was awaiting a liver transplant had a profound impact and led him to create The David Foster Foundation in 1986. Its mission is to provide financial support to Canadian families with children in need of live-saving organ transplants, along with a new focus on organ donor awareness.
KATHARINE MCPHEE is one of a handful of artists who takes the lead in a career that includes film, television, Broadway, recording, and concert tours. Katharine first burst onto the scene in 2006, during a successful run on Season 5 of American Idol, that made her a household name.
As an actress, she is well-known to television audiences for starring as ‘Paige Dineen’ on the CBS spy drama Scorpion (2014-2018), and also as one of the leads in the NBC musical drama Smash (2012-2013), executive produced by Steven Spielberg. She also starred in the Netflix comedy series, Country Comfort (2021). She has also guest-starred in the series CSI: NY, Community, Family Guy, and Ugly Betty.
As a singer, Katharine is renowned for her powerhouse presence, and show-stopping performances. Her recordings have topped the charts in multiple genres including pop, jazz, and adult contemporary. A sought-after performer, Katharine has taken the stage for various PBS broadcasts throughout the years, including Foster and Friends, Chris Botti In Boston, and headlining her own SoundStage special.
In Spring 2018, McPhee made her Broadway debut starring as Jenna in the hit musical Waitress, featuring music and lyrics by Sara Bareilles. She then originated the leading role in the West End production and then returned to Broadway to perform in the shows final weeks.
In addition to her acting and singing career, McPhee is a passionate philanthropist, having served as an ambassador for organizations such as BuildOn, Malaria No More, and Feeding America. Katharine continues to perform at many charitable events including The David Foster Foundation, of which she is an avid supporter.
A veteran of the concert stage, Katharine performs to sold-out audiences around the world. Most recently Katharine paired with David Foster to create a show called ‘An Intimate Evening with David Foster and Katharine McPhee.’ This in demand show has garnered rave reviews and they perform to sold out concert venues around the world. During Christmas 2022, Katharine released Part 1 of her Christmas album called Christmas Songs, a collection of Christmas classics produced by David Foster. Part 2 was released Christmas 2023.

Kyle Miller - Property Flipping as a Business
Kyle Miller started buying houses in 2011 and has since completed over 400 deals across Central Virginia, growing from small flips to luxury renovations and new construction. As both an operator and his own general contractor, Kyle brings a ground-level perspective on finding deals, managing capital, and building systems that scale. He'll be sharing what's working in today's market and how he structures opportunities for private lending partners, giving a clear picture of where the real opportunities are and how to participate in them.
Peter Sturdivant - The Core Domains of Real Estate Investing
Real estate investing touches more disciplines than most people realize — and most beginners don't know what they don't know. In this talk, Peter will walk through the full landscape of skills a real estate investor will encounter on their journey: from finding and evaluating deals, to financing, construction, operations, and exit. The goal isn't to teach everything — it's to expose as much surface area as possible, so you can find the domains that naturally click for you and go deep on those. Peter has built an insurance agency, a rental portfolio, a private lending fund, and a property management company from the ground up, and he'll share honestly what he's learned, what he's hired out, and what he wishes someone had told him at the start. Whether you're just getting off the bench or a few deals in, you'll leave with a cleaner map of the industry and a better sense of where you fit in it.

Speakers will Include:
